MATERIALS AT A GLANCE

Choose your filament.
Know the trade-offs.

Compare common 3D-printing materials by the qualities that matter for your project. Use this as a starting point—not a substitute for a specific filament datasheet.

Strength Stiffness Toughness Heat resistance
FilamentStrengthStiffnessToughnessHeat resistanceGood for
PLAEasy detailModerateHighLowerLowDecorative homeware, display models, desk organisers, figurines, housings for indoor use, visual prototypes and parts where crisp detail and a clean finish matter more than heat resistance.
PLA-CFCarbon-fibre filledModerateVery highLowerLowRigid brackets and fixtures, camera or electronics mounts, jigs, tool holders and lightweight structural covers where low flex and a matte technical finish are desirable. Carbon fibre mainly improves stiffness; it does not automatically make the part stronger in every direction.
PETGEveryday functionalGoodModerateGoodModerateCable clips, tool holders, storage bins, equipment covers, mounting brackets, garden accessories and everyday functional parts that may see knocks or moisture but not sustained high heat.
PETG-CFStiffer PETG blendGoodVery highModerateModerateStiff brackets, machine guards, mounting plates, jigs, fixtures and larger functional housings where reduced flex and dimensional stability are useful. Check the specific blend's toughness and layer adhesion for impact-loaded parts.
ABSEngineering plasticGoodModerateGoodHighTool and electronics enclosures, automotive interior prototypes, snap-fit covers and durable workshop components where toughness and improved heat tolerance are useful. Printing requires suitable temperature control and ventilation.
ASAOutdoor focusedGoodModerateGoodHighOutdoor sensor housings, garden fittings, brackets, signage components, equipment covers and vehicle exterior accessories exposed to sun and weather. Design drainage and mounting carefully; outdoor suitability still depends on load and temperature.
TPUFlexibleVariesLowVery highVariesProtective bumpers, non-slip feet, flexible straps, grips, vibration-damping pads, cable strain reliefs and compliant covers. Choose hardness carefully: softer TPU bends more easily but may be harder to print and dimension accurately.
PA / NylonWear & impactHighModerateVery highHighFunctional clips, hinges designed for the chosen grade, gears and guides at suitable loads, bushings, wear strips and impact-resistant mechanisms. Nylon absorbs moisture and needs careful drying; the exact grade matters significantly.
PCHigh-performanceVery highHighHighVery highElectrical or equipment components, brackets and housings needing higher heat tolerance, plus demanding functional prototypes where stiffness and strength matter. Polycarbonate can be challenging to print and should be selected against a specific grade's datasheet.

A QUICK WAY TO CHOOSE

For appearance and fine detailStart with PLA for decorative pieces, gifts, models and indoor products.
For everyday functional partsConsider PETG for holders, brackets, covers and items that may get knocked or exposed to moisture.
For outdoor useConsider ASA for sun and weather exposure, especially where UV resistance matters.
For flexibility or impactTPU suits flexible, grippy parts; PA/Nylon may suit wear and impact. Match the material to the actual load.
For extra rigidityCarbon-fibre-filled grades can reduce flex, while PC and some engineering plastics suit more demanding heat or load requirements.
Not sure which one?Tell us where the part will be used, whether it needs to flex, and what it must withstand. We can recommend a shortlist.

LET THE APPLICATION LEAD

Tell us what the part needs to do.

Will it sit in the sun, carry a load, flex, resist heat or simply look great on a shelf? We'll help you shortlist suitable materials for your project.

Copies of messages or attachments may remain in email systems or provider backups for a period governed by the relevant provider's retention and backup processes.

      10. How do we protect your information?

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures intended to protect personal information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse, alteration or disclosure. To exercise a right, email [email protected] and explain your request. We may need to verify your identity before responding. Some information may need to be retained where the law requires it or an applicable exception applies.

      12. Complaints to the supervisory authority

      1. About FORMEXA

FORMEXA is a 3D-printing and personalised-products business operated by Kelvin Cassar as a sole trader in Malta.

      • Trading name: FORMEXA
      • Legal business owner: Kelvin Cassar
      • Business address: Triq il Karwija, Kirkop, Malta
      • Email: [email protected]
      • VAT number: MT33272013
      • VAT status: Article 11 – exempt small undertaking

References to “FORMEXA”, “we”, “us” or “our” mean Kelvin Cassar, trading as FORMEXA.

      2. Products and Services

FORMEXA offers 3D-printed products, personalised items, accessories, custom-designed products and custom 3D-printing services.

Product descriptions, photographs, colours, dimensions and specifications are provided as accurately as reasonably possible.

Due to the nature of 3D printing, minor variations in colour, surface finish, texture and dimensions may occur. Such variations are considered normal characteristics of the manufacturing process, provided the product still conforms to its description and agreed specifications.

Some products may be made to order or customised according to information supplied by the customer.

      3. Orders and Acceptance

When placing an order, customers are responsible for ensuring that their contact details, delivery details, selected options and personalisation information are correct.

An order confirmation acknowledges receipt of an order but does not necessarily mean that the order has been accepted.

FORMEXA may contact customers if clarification is required before production.

If an order cannot be fulfilled, the customer will be informed and any payment taken for the unfulfilled order will be refunded.

FORMEXA reserves the right to refuse or cancel orders where there are reasonable grounds to do so, including suspected fraudulent activity, inaccurate pricing or product listing errors. Where payment has already been received for an order that is cancelled, the customer will receive an appropriate refund.

      4. Pricing, VAT and Payment

All prices are displayed in euros (€).

FORMEXA is registered under Article 11 of the Maltese VAT Act as an exempt small undertaking. VAT is therefore not charged on supplies covered by this exemption.

Prices displayed on the website do not have VAT added at checkout while this exemption applies.

Any applicable delivery charges or additional costs will be communicated before the customer completes the purchase.

Payments made through the website are processed using the payment methods presented at checkout. FORMEXA does not intend to store customers' full payment card details.

Custom orders are subject to individual quotations and the payment arrangements described in Section 5.

      5. Custom 3D-Printing Orders and Deposits

Custom 3D-printing jobs are generally handled through an individual quotation.

Unless otherwise agreed in writing, the standard payment arrangement is:

      • 50% deposit: Payable when the customer accepts the quotation and confirms the order.
      • Remaining 50%: Payable upon completion of the work, at delivery or collection.

Production will normally begin once the deposit has been received.

The customer will be informed if any changes to the agreed specifications, materials, quantities or price are required.

Any additional work or changes requested after the quotation has been accepted may result in additional charges. These will be communicated and agreed with the customer before proceeding.

Deposits and payments will be handled in accordance with applicable consumer law. Nothing in this section removes any statutory cancellation, withdrawal or refund rights that may apply.

      6. Personalised and Custom-Made Products

Customers are responsible for checking all submitted personalisation details, including names, spelling, colours, dimensions, text and uploaded designs.

Once production has started, changes or cancellations may no longer be possible.

Under applicable consumer law, the 14-day right of withdrawal does not apply to goods made to the customer's specifications or clearly personalised.

This exception does not remove a customer's statutory rights if an item is faulty, damaged, incorrectly produced or does not conform to the agreed order.

      7. Returns, Cancellations and Refunds

      7.1 Standard, non-personalised products

For eligible online purchases, consumers may exercise their statutory 14-day right of withdrawal from the day they receive the goods.

Customers wishing to exercise this right should contact FORMEXA at [email protected] within the applicable period.

Unless otherwise required by law, customers are responsible for the direct cost of returning goods when exercising this right, provided they were informed of this obligation before purchase.

Returned goods should be handled with reasonable care. Customers may be responsible for any diminished value resulting from handling beyond what is necessary to establish the nature, characteristics and functioning of the goods.

      7.2 Personalised and custom-made products

The statutory 14-day right of withdrawal does not apply where the product falls within the legal exception for goods made to the customer's specifications or clearly personalised.

FORMEXA does not offer change-of-mind returns for such products where the legal exception applies.

7.3 Faulty, damaged or incorrect products

Nothing in these Terms and Conditions limits or excludes customers' statutory rights.

If a product arrives damaged, is faulty, is incorrectly personalised due to an error by FORMEXA, or does not conform to the agreed specifications, customers should contact FORMEXA with details of the issue.

Where applicable, customers are entitled to the remedies provided by law, which may include repair, replacement, a price reduction or a refund.

Customers should provide photographs or other relevant information where reasonably necessary to help FORMEXA assess the issue.

      8. Production, Delivery and Collection

FORMEXA currently accepts website orders for customers in Malta and Gozo only.

Both delivery and collection are available.

Delivery charges and arrangements will be communicated during the ordering process or before the order is confirmed.

Collection arrangements, including the agreed collection location and time, will be communicated directly to the customer.

Estimated production and delivery times may vary depending on the complexity, quantity and customisation of an order.

If a delay occurs, FORMEXA will inform the customer where reasonably possible.

Customers are responsible for providing accurate delivery information. Additional delivery costs resulting from incorrect or incomplete information may be charged where legally permitted and agreed.

Applicable statutory delivery timeframes and consumer protections remain in force.

      9. Customer-Supplied Designs and Intellectual Property

Customers who upload or submit photographs, artwork, logos, 3D models or other files confirm that they have the necessary rights or permissions to use those materials for the requested purpose.

Customers must not submit materials that unlawfully infringe another person's intellectual property rights.

FORMEXA may refuse a request where the supplied content appears unlawful or inappropriate.

Unless otherwise agreed in writing, customers do not acquire ownership of FORMEXA's original designs, website content, branding or other intellectual property.

Customer-supplied files and designs remain the property of their respective owners. FORMEXA will use these materials only as reasonably necessary to fulfil the customer's order or provide the requested service.

      10. Custom 3D-Printing Services

Custom printing requests may require individual assessment and quotation.

The customer is responsible for ensuring that supplied files are suitable for the intended purpose and that they have permission to reproduce the supplied design.

FORMEXA may advise that a file requires modification or may be unsuitable for printing.

Any agreed specifications, price, production timeframe and other project requirements will be confirmed before work begins.

FORMEXA does not guarantee that every supplied 3D model can be printed successfully without modification. Where a technical issue arises, FORMEXA will contact the customer to discuss possible adjustments.

      11. Product Use and Safety

Customers are responsible for using products in accordance with their intended purpose.

Unless explicitly stated in the product description or agreed in writing, FORMEXA products should not be assumed to be certified for food contact, medical use, child safety, structural applications or other regulated purposes.

Customers should contact FORMEXA before purchasing if they require a product for a specialised or safety-critical application.

Nothing in this section excludes any product safety obligations or statutory rights that apply under law.

      12. Liability and Consumer Rights

FORMEXA will provide products and services with reasonable care and in accordance with applicable law.

Nothing in these Terms and Conditions excludes or restricts liability or consumer rights where such exclusion or restriction is prohibited by law.

FORMEXA is not responsible for problems caused by incorrect information supplied by the customer, misuse of a product, or modifications made after delivery, except where applicable law provides otherwise.

      13. Privacy

Personal information submitted through the website will be handled in accordance with the FORMEXA Privacy Policy.

The Privacy Policy explains how personal data is collected, used, stored and protected.

By placing an order, customers acknowledge that their information will be processed as described in the Privacy Policy and as necessary to fulfil their order and meet applicable legal obligations.

      14. Complaints and Contact

For questions, complaints, order issues or requests relating to these Terms and Conditions, customers may contact:

      FORMEXA
      Kelvin Cassar
      Triq il Karwija, Kirkop, Malta
      Email: [email protected]

Please include your order number where applicable.

FORMEXA will make reasonable efforts to respond and resolve complaints promptly.

      15. Applicable Law

These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of Malta.

Nothing in this section removes any mandatory consumer protections that apply under applicable Maltese or European Union law.

      16. Changes to These Terms

FORMEXA may update these Terms and Conditions from time to time.

The version published on the website will apply to orders placed after its publication date. Changes will not retrospectively remove rights or alter the terms of an order already placed, except where required or permitted by law.
